1960s Scandinavian Armchair – Fully Restored in Camira Hemp
A beautifully proportioned 1960s Scandinavian armchair with a sculptural upholstered back, integrated arms and a solid timber frame. Fully restored and traditionally reupholstered using natural upholstery materials, with a sprung seat cushion for additional comfort and resilience.
About the Chair
This mid-century Scandinavian armchair has a particularly elegant profile, combining a generously shaped upholstered back and arms with a simple, finely proportioned timber base.
The gently tapered legs and connecting stretchers give the chair a strong architectural quality, while the independently sprung seat cushion provides a comfortable and responsive sitting experience.
Its understated form allows the quality of the upholstery and timber construction to remain central to the design.
Materials & Upholstery
The chair has been fully restored and traditionally reupholstered using natural upholstery materials, including:
Natural coir
Natural latex foam
Wool
Sprung seat cushion
Traditional upholstery construction
The sprung cushion provides an important element of the chair's comfort and resilience. Used in conjunction with natural upholstery materials, it allows the seat to respond naturally to use rather than relying solely on a solid foam cushion.
Restoration
The chair has been carefully restored and reupholstered by Swaethe, with attention given to both the visible finish and the construction beneath it.
The sprung seat cushion has been retained and restored as part of the upholstery, with natural upholstery materials used wherever appropriate. This reflects Swaethe's approach to preserving the original character and construction of vintage furniture rather than unnecessarily replacing sound components.
